How to find UT from anywhere!
Reach . . . You'll See It!

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville — You’ll remember it and love it, as well as the brand new Knoxville Convention Center and the World’s Fair Park. What an exciting atmosphere for Youth2003!

Knoxville ...

  • Is located in East Tennessee;
  • Rests in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park;
  • Sits at the crossroads of I-75, I-40, and I-81;
  • Is home to The University of Tennessee, founded in 1794, the nation’s first coed higher education institution;
  • Will host thousands of United Methodist youth, July 23-27, 2003!

Weather
Knoxville is in a temperate climate zone. The summers are typically green and gentle. In July, the average high temperature is 87° F, and the average low is 68° F. In the summertime, it is best to wear very light clothing because temperatures can and frequently do reach up into the 90s. The evenings are cooler, but still dictate light clothing. However, evenings in the mountains and on the lakes are quite a bit cooler and would most likely call for a light evening wrap. July tends to be a relatively dry month; but as with most places, summertime thunderstorms can pop up rather quickly. It would be advisable to bring an umbrella or hat just in case the occasional rain shower moves through. The summer humidity in Knoxville is always quite high, so the air could feel heavier and hotter than the temperatures suggest.

All meeting facilities and housing are air-conditioned. The Arena can get chilly, so a light jacket or sweater would be advisable for the general sessions.

Getting from Here to There
Youth2003 is a walking event! Most hotels and residence halls are no more than a 15-20 minute walk to Thompson-Boling Arena, where the general sessions will take place. Bus transportation will be provided only for those for whom walking is a difficulty. This is a handicap accessible event.
